CORRESPONDENCE.
I [We do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinionexpressed by our correspondents]. :o: TO THE EDITOR. ' Sir, —I notice that the Hawke’s Bay Board of Education is beginning to wake up to the fact that country schoolmasters cannot satisfactorily train their pupil teachers. There is no doubt but that after another prolonged slumber the Board will realise the fact that a good many of the country schoolmasters cannot satisfactorily train any of their pupils. In order to prove this I would like to see a report furnished by the Inspector, showing how many children in each school have passed the necessary examination for exemption from school during a period of say three years past. Also showing the number of children who have retired from school through being over school age and who have not passed. It is a great pity that sewing is not made part of the qualification for female pupil teachers. By adopting this plan the Board would soon be relieved from going a begging for some one to teach sewing in schools. It is also a pity that Mr Morgan's school is not a couple of miles nearer to Makaraka. If it were he would soon have to enlarge his building,—l am &c., Another Interested.
