BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—(COPYRIGHT.) [reuter’s telegrams]. Received Oct. 3, 1 a.m. ST. PETERSBURG H, Sept. 30. The torpedo magazine of the Russian circular ironclad Pqpoffka, stationed at Odessa, a seaport on the Black Sea, exploded to-day. Thirty of the crew were killed and several others severely injured. NEW YORK, Sept. 30. One of the Mississippi River steamers has been burnt; twenty persons lost their lives by the casualty. ALEXANDRIA, Out. 2. Baker Pasha arrived at Cairo to-day from Constantinople. Received Out. 3, noon. SYDNEY, This Day. A fire occurred at Lawler’s bedding factory, in George Street, last night, resulting in the complete destruction of the premises and death of a woman who was sleeping there.
The coal lumpers employed on the Sydney wharves are demanding threepence per hour advance of wages, and a strike is feared to be imminent.
LONDON, October 2. ; A brilliant aurora borealis was visible last I night.
