Melbourne Cup Scratchings.

(BY CABLE.—REUTER’S TELEGRAMS). MELBOURNE, Sept. 30. Lavinia. and Phoreus have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup.

Hippodamia has been sold to Mr J. H. Pollock of Wanganui, for the sum of £5OO. The Australian jockey, George Williams —who has been thrown out of employment through the death of Mr W. Walters—has been engaged to ride for Messrs Mason and Vallance during the coming season.
