A GLIMPSE OF FRENCH LIFE.

The Police Court at Yvetot (France) had before them a woman charged with poisoning her child, and the case brought to light some strange evidence. The woman was only recently married, but for a period of seven years hud been living as a mistress to a man named Caubec. This gentleman, though married, lived apart from his wife; and that lady lived with another man. The lover of Madame Caubec died, and Mr Caubec made friends with her again, consequently deserting his mistress. This lady was soon consoled, and married a workman named Boyer, who overlooked the fact that she had four children, all of whom died in a most mysterious manner. Only a few weeks ago Caubec seemed to regret that he had deserted his mistress, and he proposed to her that if she would leave Yvetot with him they could go elsewhere and live happily together. She would not agree to this, and he threatened to inform the authorities how she had poisoned her youngest child, and neglected the other children. As she still refused to acquiesce in his proposals, he carried his threat into execution. She, however, proved that she had done so at his instigation, and that he had helped her.
