CABLEGRAMS.
BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—(COPYRIGHT.) [REUTER’S telegrams]. Received Sept. 29, 9.45 p.m. ALEXANDRIA, Sept. 28. A goods train loaded with ammunition exploded while standing at the railway station at Cairo. The British officers were holding a race meeting in the vicinity at the time, aud a large number of Arabs and Europeans, who were near the train, were blown away by the force of the explosion, 30 persons being killed. The station and neighboring buildings are in flames. Explosions of a similar nature continue to occur. The cause is attributable to the intense heat. Received Sept. 30, 0.55 a.m. ALEXANDRIA, Sept. 29. It is estimated that by the explosion of ammunition at Cairo yesterday, British stores and material to the value of fully £lOO,OOO were destroyed. LONDON, Sept. 29. The Australians were entertained at a banquet last evening, prior to their departure for Australia, at the Criterion, by colonists now in Loudon. Sir Henry Barkley, formerly Governor of Victoria, occupied the chair, and, during the evening, warmly complimented the Cricketers upon their successes in England. Two hundred and sixty guests were present. Received Sept. 30, 1.30 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 28. At to-day’s wool sale 8900 bales were catalogued. The tone of the sale was steady, but the demand was not active, 30,000 bales having been withdrawn from sale since the opening of the series. Consols unchanged, 1004 ; bank rate, 5 per cent : market rate, per cent. Bunk reserve, £11,500,000. New Zealand securities unchanged. Colonial breadstuff's remain dull, at yesterday’s reduced prices.
