A Fbench account of Adam’s fall-—’’ “M. Adam he vake up —he see une belle demoiselle asleep in ze garden. Voila do la chance ' “ Bonjour, Mme. Iv.” Mme. Iv, she vake ; she hole her fan before her face. Adam put on his eyeglass to admire ze tableau, and zey make one promenade. Mme. Iv she feel hungry. She see apple on ze arbre. Serpent se prone sur I’arbre—make one valk on ze tree. “ M. le serpent,” say Iv. “ will yous not have ze bonte to peck me some appel ? j’ai faitn.” “ Certainment, Mme Iv.” say ze serpent. “ Charme de vous voir.” “ llola 1 mon ami, ar-r etez vous” say Adam—sthop 1 sthop I —que eongez-vous faire ? Was madness is zees? Y r ou must not peek ze appel!” Ze snake, he take one pinch of shnuff; he say: “Au! M. Adam, do you not know how zero is nossing proheebet forze ladies ? Mme. Iv. permit, me to offer you some of ze fruit defendu—zees forbeeden fruit.” Iv. she make one courtesy —ze snake he fill her parasol wiz ze appel. He says : Eritis sicut Deus. M. Adam, he will eat ze appel, he will become like one Dieu, knew ze good and ze evell —but you, Mme. Iv. cannot become more of a goddess zan you are now.” An’ zat feeuish Mme. Iv.”
