Poverty Bay Standard. Published Every Evening. GISBORNE: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1882.

Fortunately for the residents in the Borough of Gisborne the question of water supply, although for a while dormant, has not vanished from sight. In the Borough Council last evening Cr. Clarke brought forward a motion, which was carried after some slight opposition, that the AgentGeneral be requested to supply the Council with particulars regarding the price of iron piping of various sizes, as also the probable freightage from England to this Port. well water, or having to carry their water from a long distance. The discomfort arising from the street dust has already begun to make itself unpleasantly felt; and should we have a dry, hot summer, the question of water supply cannot fail to be reviewed in its full strength. We want water, and we sincerely hope the Councillors will give it to us, if it can be procured at anything approaching a reasonable cost.
