This, as already stated, wae the only insurance on the building or its contents. Received Sept. 22nd, 1.40 p.m. Arrived, this afternoon, the City of Sydney from San Francisco via Auckland. The whole of the Garden Palace was completely destroyed thio morning, and within an hour after the commencement of the fire a few portions of the brickwork was all that remained standing. There was no insurance upon the building or the contents, except the art collection. The calculation of the lose is incalculable owing to the destruction of Government documenta, many of which cannot bo replaced. All the papers belonging to the last census, and plans and records of railway services perished in the flames, and the collootlon in the Technological Museum will be difficult to replace. The flames spread with great rapidity, and rose to an immense height, being visible for miles round. The origin of the ffre is entirely unknown, but it is hinted that it is duo to incendiarism.
