MUNICIPAL CANDIDATES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—ls it-not the intention of the retiring Councillors to convene a public meeting for the purpose of given the electors an account of their stewardship ? There are some very grave allegations made at street corners against the Council, regarding past appropriation of the Borough funds, which might be explained to the satisfaction of all. A public meeting would at least give electors an opportunity of obtaining pledges for the future.—Yours, Elector.

Sir, —Now that the report re complaint of Wairoa Road has been given, it might be as well if the public knew the grounds of the same : —lt was after the|lapse of four months of the very worst winter we have had for many years, and after many thousands of feet of heavy Matai timber had been carted over it for the construction of bridges and culverts, and when Mr Morris could not use the road any longer, that he found out that it was all wrong, and not according to specifications, Mr Morris passed many times during its construction and made no complaint except to ask if that was all the width I was going to make it; when I asked him why he did not complain before, he said he did not want to complain of me, it was Winter. Now I have worked under a few engineers, and I safely say that to get the blind side of Mr G. J. Winter, Messrs Morris, Clique, and Co., or any other man, will want to rise precious early.—Yours, &c., M. Boland.
