CORRESPONDENCE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—On reading last night’s “Herald” I saw a letter signed “ One of the Petitioners,” asking whether anyone could believe the Standard, aud saying that he chooe io think the “Herald” correct. Now, sir, I ask, can anyone believe the “ Herald,” when they openly state that the nominations for vacancies in the Borough Council were filled yesterday by Messrs Townley and Somervel l ’? This is most assuredly an error, as the nominations did not take place until 12 o’clock to-day. I prefer to believe the Standard aud to disbelieve the “Herald,” in most instances, and in this one especially. Apologising for trespassing on your valuable space.—l remain, Not a Petitioner.
