ARRIVAL OF THE WAIRABAPA. Melbourne, This Day. Arrived: The Union Company’s new steamship, Wairarapa, from London, July 18. She made the voyage in 43 days 4 hours, actual steaming. THE LIONESS. (PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION). GREYMOUTH, This day. The wreck of the Lionese was put up to anction on Saturday afternoou, but no bid was received. A large gang of men are engaged in breaking open her side with a view of saving her machinery and boilers. LAKE PIGEON WRECKED. [Paa “ Arous" Special]. LONDON, Sept 1, 6 p.m. The steamer Lake Pigeon has been wrecked off Arklow, a seaport town on the south-east coast of Wicklow. Five boats with passengers are missing. September 2, 2.45 p.m. The boats missing from the steamer which grounded at Arklow, have turned up safe.
