PARLIAMENTARY.
[per united press association.] Legislative Council. WELLINGTON, Yesterday. The Council met at 2.39. An instruction was proposed to be given to joint House Committees to enquire into the expenditure in the Assembly buildings. The House divided : Ayes, 25 ; Noes, 27. On the motion of Mr Menzies it was agreed that a return be laid on the table showing the area of all lands sold in Counties and Boroughs in Westland and Nelson South-east Goldfields before 29th Sept., 1873. Col. Brett said he had received a letter from the Agricultural College, Canterbury, answering several questions which he read to the Council. The Public Offenders Disqualifications Amendmet Bill was read a third time and passed. Ohoko and Eyreton Domain Board Em powering Bill, and Sheep Act Amendment Bill were both read a second time. The Land Act, 1877, Amendment Bill was adjourned for debate. Mr Buckley’s motion that the Bill be read this day six months was negatived, and the Bill read a second time and referred to the Waste Lands Committee. The Napier High School and Land Boards Bill were adjourned until Monday. The Otago Harbor Board Bill was committed, and the Council rose at 5 until 7.30.
