LONDON HOP TRADE.

Messrs. Trier, Mayer and Co., Hop Merchants, of 47 High-street, Borough, London, report through their correspondent, Mr Leonard Blake, of Christchurch, that the market during the month ending 13th July, hail been in a very excited state. The advance mentioned in theirs of 13th June, was not only maintained but had steadily progressed and assumed greater proportions. in consequence of the serious condition of the English hop plantations and some of the Continental districts. Hops of any kind and quality of the 1881 crops had been taken off freely by consumers, and as there were scarcely any stocks in the hands of the trade or speculators, prices were expected to rule much higher yet. Export duties were very difficult to fill and that only at extreme rates-
