[Reuter’s Special.] AUSTRALIANS V ALL ENGLAND. LONDON. August 28. The cricket match, All England v. Australians, was resumed’to-day at the Oval. The second innings of the visitors closed for a total of 122 runs. August 29. The cricket match, Australians v. All England Eleven, was concluded to-day at Kennington Oval. The latter in their 2nd innings only succeeded in scoring 77 runs. The Australians thus winning the match by seven runs. The following are the totals - Australians, Ist innings, 63; 2nd, 122. England, Ist innings, 101; 2nd, 77. The health of the Archbishop of Canterbury, who has been suffering from congestion of the lungs, is improving. August 29. Ail official despatch has been received fully confirming the news to hand of the attack by Arabi upon the British position at at Rassassin and the infliction of a severe defeat upon the enemy. The particulars now received, state that Arabi's force consisted of 8 battalions of Infantry and a considerable body of Artillery, with eight guns. The British position was defended by three and a-half bettalions of infantry, a few Cavalry, and a body of Artillery with five guns. After Arabi had made a series of unsuccessful attacks on their position, the British assumed the offensive and made an assault on the enemy’s front. The cavalry were employed on their front, and were completely successful, a great number of the enemy being sabred. Arabi commanded his forces in person, and, after the British attack, withdrew, and succeeded in taking his guns with him (whioh were not captured as previously stated). A large supply of amnunition, however, fall into the hands of th* British. The British lots is now officially stated at 71 killed and 61 wounded, _ , August 30. Further mtellingence to hand regarding the battle at Ranassin states that the enemy maintained the attack for several hours during the night until day broke, when the British attack was commenced. The charge made was thoroughly successful, the enemy being completely routed, with the result already etated; their lose being very heavy. The Irish Constables at Limerick who had resigned in consequence of the dismissal of the leaders of the agitation liave now been appeased and have withdrawn their resign*Prince Leopold, who is at present staying at Osborne, is seriously indisposed and the State of his health is causing alarm,
ALEXANDRIA. , , August 28. Attack was mads on Monday night by Arabi, with tho whole of his available force, upon the British position at Rassassin Look on Fresh the Water Canal which was occupied by a force of British cavalry, on the 26th Inst. Repeated assaults were made by the enemy, who were, however, repulsed with heavy loss, and eleven guns were captured by the British. Our loss during the engagement was 120 killed and wounded. The railway line between Ismalia and Kaesassin is completely in the hands of the British, and now working without interruption. The whole of the troops under Sir Gemet Wolsely are, consequently, being rapidly moved to and fro, and it is anticipated that an overwhelming force will soon be prepared to attack the enemy. CONSTANTINOPLE. Aug. 30. Accounts to hand from Turkish sources allege that the Greeks were the aggressors in the outbreak in Dagair, in atteinpting to seize Certain disputed territory in Thessaly. It is now known that several Turks were killed in the engagement which took place. Age Special. LONDON. August 29, 4.55 p.m. Arabi’s loss in the recent engagement was 400 killed and wounded. The convention between England and the Porte has now been signed. Major General Macpherson, V.C., Bengal Staff Corps, will make Nafieh the base of his operations.
August 30, 10 a.m. Intelligence from the Cape states that Secocoene, the celebrated Basuto chief, has been treacherously murdered. “ Abgub” Special. LONDON. August 29, 7.26 p.m. The transport of stores and munitions to the front In Egypt is found to be most difficult work, owing to the climate, which makes fearful havoc amongst both men and animals ; there is, consequently, some scarcity being experienced at the advanced posts. The Native Fetog, who constructed the fortifications of Kafradowar, has, by telegraph, supplied Sir Garnet Wolseley with full details and description of the military works defending Arabi's position, J The Fresh Water Canal at Rassassin is poisoned by the corpses of men and camels which have been thrown into It.
The Irish Constabulary throughout Connaught now threaten to resign. The Tunisian refugees who escaped to Tripoli have now submitted and returned to their own country. August 30, 6.15 p.m. H.R.H. the Duke of Albany is suffering from a severe hemorrhage. The brilliant victory of the Australian Eleven over the All England Team Is generally attributed to the excellence of the Australian bowling. The “Standard " says the Australian victory was thoroughly well deserved, and was secured by really good play ) but it Is nevertheless somewhat mortifying for England to find itself beaten at cricket by the representatives of the same Colonies which have previously been victorious in rowing. The “ Sportsman " hopes the defeat will teach English cricketers to control their nerves, and cultivate a spirit of determination and steadiness- There were at least 20,000 spectators at the conclusion of the match, and an hour before tlie last English wicket fell the odds of 60 to 1 were freely
