[Reuter’s Special.] ALEXANDRIA. August 23. ~The regiments of the Household Cavalry and British Mounted Infantry which left Isnialia yesterday advanced beyond Nefisch the place which was recently occupied. No opposition was met with from the enemy’s forces. August 24. Sir Garnet Wolseley is now at Nefisch. It is expected that a general advance of troops under Sir Garnet Wolsely’s command will be made on Sunday next. LONDON. August 24. The return match between the Australian Cricketersand 11 of Gloucestershire which was to have been commenced to-day had to be postponed owing to the rain. Cetawayo embarks on the Ist Sept, on his return to the Cape. Consols are unchanged at 99£ ; and New Zealand Securities at last quotations. The total Reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £11,125,000, being £375,000 in excess of the Reserve last week. The Bank rate of discount was unchanged at 4 per cent., and market rate 3jj. The market for Colonial Breadstuff's and Tallow are without quotable change. The catalogue at to-day's wool sale comprised 8,300 bales, and a fair demand was experienced.
August 25. Parliamentary Blue Book upon the Natives of New Zealand has been published. Among documents contained in it, is a communication from Sir Arthur Gordon referring to the policy adopted by the Government in connection with the confiscated lands in Taranaki. Sir Arthur states that he considers that Te Whiti and other Natives are entitled to land even where it may be situated within the boundary of confiscated territory,
