[per united press association]. TIMARU. This Day. By the mail the Timaru “ Herald ” received a letter from the owners of the wrecked ship Bevenue in Glasgow advertising a subsreiption of £lOO to tlie Wreck Relief Fund. NEW PLYMOUTH. This Day. An inquest on the St. Andrew’s Church fire was held yesterday, and occupied the whole day, the jury retiring about 10 last night. The following verdict was returned : —“ The Scotch Kirk was ruthlessly seton fire on the morning of the 19th August, but evidence is not sufficient to implicate any person or persons. ” The following rider was added to it:—“The jury recommend the authorities to offer a reward for any evidence that would lead to the conviction of the perpetrators ; and that a free pardon be granted to an accomplice giving evidence. At five o’clock this morning the Stratford Hotel was burned down. Most of the furniture was saved. The fire is supposed to have originated in the spirit store, under the stairs, and went up the lining to the roof. Insurances on the building are—Victoria, £500; on stock, Norwich Union, £250; United, £l5O. CHRISTCHURCH. This day. Dr. John Parker, aged 60, was found dead in his bed this morning. Ho was of intemperate habits, and had been ailing some time. A man living with him found him raving at two o’clock, and went back to bed without fetching assistance. He found him dead at 8.30.
