In the House of Bepresentatives last night Major Atkinson said the Government intended to move that the House meet at 11 o'clock nest Monday, so as to give private members the whole day for their Bills. He hoped this Session would end by the close of the present month. They would push on as much as possible this week and early next week state wnat measures it was intended to proceed with. The New Zealand Loan Bill was read a sdcond time, after some remarks from Holmes, Hurst, and Dargaville, on a division of 44 to 33. In the second reading of Thorndon Reclamation Bill intended to carry out agreement made with Wellington-Ma-nawatu Railway Company, was moved by Mr Johnson and supported by Mr Weston, Sheehan, Smitn, Hall, Shephard, Tawhai and Maoandrew; and opposed by Fish, Turnbull and Montgomery, the second reading was carried on the voices. Lunatics Bill was read a third time and passed. Mr Levistam moved recommittal of the Friendly Societies Bill, to amend clause 12 by making the Government responsible for the cost of valuation.
Major Atkinson opposed thoreeommitttl, and sqicj. he understood the Societies did not want the Government to pay, but he thought thp
charge was one that the Government should pay, and he would put a sum for that purpose on the estimates. Mr Fish said the Socities in his district did not wish the Government to pay. The motion for recommittal was lost on division by 37 to 29. The bill was read a third time and passed. The Railway Construction and Land Act Amendment Bill passed through committee.
The Waikato, Thames, and East and West Coast Middle Island Lines being added to the Schedule, the Prisons Bill and Justices of Peace Bill were passed through committee, a clause being inserted in the latter that any Justice becoming insolvent shall, ipso facto, cease to be Justice of the Peace. Progress was reported ou the Stamp Bill, and the House rose at 1.45.
