SHOCKING CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
At York, recently a gross case of ! cruelty to animals was heard. Richard I Allenby Bean, farmer, Copmanthrop, ‘ York, was summoned on three distinct ! charges of cruelty. Three horses i fouud on his farm were all in a very poor condition, and suffering from ' mange. Qpe qf ti]em had died from ' starvation, There was also a sow I which was simply a living skeleton, i and with it were six small pigs, vainly j endeavoring to obtain nourishment i
from it. There was not a particle of food or water for any’ of them, and no one on the premises. A gelt pig and a dog were also found in a state of starvation. Defendant has been convicted a number of times previously for similar offences, having been sent to prison for four months, and fined nearly JEIOO. In January last he was fined £2O on four charges, and he was now sent to prison for four months.
