In the House of Commons to-day Arrears of Rent in Ireland Bill was again under consideration, and the amendments proposed in the House of Lords were discussed at length, Various new amendments were proposed by the Premier, and were adopted bv substantial majorities. It is believed that the Upper House will consent to accept the Bill in its present form.

The agitation among the Irish Constabulary for increase of pay is now subsideci, and it is hoped that the threatened strike has been averted, In the House of Commons yesterday the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone announced with reference to Arrears of Rent in Ireland Bill that Government proposed to reject the amend, ment made to the Bill in the ffouse of Lords, by which it was required that landlords and tenants should join in making application to the court. The Premier, howeyer, further announced that the Government were willing to modify some of the other clauses of the Bill, in order to meet the views of upper House. Duleerc, the new Premier, set forth the Ministerial programme. With reference to the state of affairs in the East, M.
