[united press association.] WELLINGTON. A breach of promise case will be heard at the next sittings of the Supreme Court. The plaintiff is a young lady who was, until lately, engaged in a stationer’s shop in Wellington. The defendant is a clerk in the Government service. Damages are fixed at £3OO. The case of Hurrey v. Bank of New South Wales, which commenced on Wednesday, is not yet concluded. The Judge will sum up tomorrow morning. A four-roomed cottage at Newton was destroyed by fire at 6 o’clock this morning. The place was unoccupied. The fire originated through the owner of the house who resides next door. He was cutting firewood inside and knocked over a kerosene lamp. The house is insured for £lOO in South British. The loss is estimated at £5O above that amount, AUCKLAND. Tawhiao has decided to postpone the formal opening of the Waipa Bridge till Mr Bryce's arrival on Saturday. At a meeting at his settlement he spoke in a friendly manner towards the Government, and all the speakers agreed that the King alone should settle with Mr Bryce any questions of difference between the two races.
