President Arthur has again urged the release of the Irish suspects. Three thousand Turkish troops have sailed from Salonica for Egypt. 4 50 p.m. The Limerick Constabulary have struck to the number of 300, and the Belfast men threaten to do the same. Arabi is prepared to make a determined resistance at Ismailia.
Russia is mobilising her forces in Asia Minor, as near Stamboul as possible, in case of an Anglo-Turkish war.
The Black Watch, 42nd regiment, have embarked at Portsmouth for the seat of war.
Disultory fighting is taking place at the outposts in front of Alexandria. News from the Cape states that the Boers have been heavily repulsed on the border.
“ Abgus” Special. LONDON. Aug. 8. The new French Ministry has been formed as follows : M. Durlen, Premier and Minister for Foreign Affairs; Dallieres, Interior; Tinard, Finance ; Doves, Justice; Duvan, Education; Legrand, Commerce ; the portfolio of Works and other offices remain unchanged. The new Ministry is decidedly a Gambetta one, and is considered to be merely a makeshift. There are indications of the Marquis of Salisbury being inclined to agree to some compromise in regard to the Irish Arrears Bill.
Considerable alarm is expressed in British Columbia at the large influx of Chinese taking place there.
