WELLINGTON. The new business of the Government Insurance Department for the year ended 30th June, 1882, is:— Ordinary branch, 2523 policies issued assuring to £702,912 ; total premium income for past year, £26,489 Os Bd, The business of the Industrial branch for the period, 13th March to 30th June, 2593 policies assuring £57,425. Total annual premium imeome for the period referred to £2408 18s. A man named W. K. Green has been arrested here on a charge of embezzling money of his employer, Mr R. Sullivan, of Invercargill. The case of Hurrev v. Bank of New South Wales, which has occupied the Supreme Court since Wednesday morning, was this evening further adjourned until Monday. It is expected that Hurrey’s case will conclude this afternoon. Counsel are addressing the Jury. Later. Ths address of Counsel for the defence in J. R. Hurrey’s case is not yet finished, and it is now thought that the case will extend until late to-morrow.
AUCKLAND. Huckstep beat Walsh for the walking championship of Auckland. The ground was heavy with rain. The distance of seven miles was covered in 62 minutes 12j secs. Richard Moore, who attempted suicide on Saturday, is still conscious. The doctors state that he may linger for days. The bullet in the abdomen is still undiscovered. Moore has made his will, and states if he recovers ho would repeat tho attempt. Family troubles are said to be the cause. The Collector of Customs has decided to hold a Magisterial enquiry into the wreck of the Elizabeth Curie, on Courier Island. The body of a man found in the harbor is believed to bo that of the musing steward of tho ship Mendoza, named Murray. A meeting of Cricketers is to bo held, to consider a proposal to send an Auckland team on a southern tour, WANGANUI. At tho inquest on tho body of Hannah, a seaman who was drowned a fortnight ago, the verdict was " found drowned," DUNEDIN. A man named Garin was found dead near Kitohings station on Thursday Igtt, supposed to be from exposure. The Refrigerating Machinery, at Burnside, has been tried, and found to apt successfully. One farmer has contracted to supply 150 sheep daily,
