[Botb»'b Special.] ALEXANDRIA. July 27, It is now known that the Khedive has definitely refused to entertain the recommendation of hie Ministers that an annesty should be granted to the superior Bebel officers at Kafradonia, if they surrendered Arabi. No further fighting has taken place between the British force at Bamleh and Arabis followers. The Bebel outposts which have hitherto been patrolling the country in the vicinity of the village, have been withdrawn from before the British entrenchments, and nothing can now be seen of them from the camp. The Egyptian troops who were garrisoned at Aboukir, and whose loyalty was doubted, hava now rallied, and declared for the Khedive. ALEXANDRIA. Later. Information is to hand that the action of the Egyptian garrison at Aboukir in rallying on the side of the Khedive was merely a ruse. The men were called upon to proceed to Alexandria, but they refused to leave Aboukir, and it is ciear that their pretended adherence to the Khedive was a sham. CONSTANTINOPLE. July 27. It has transpired that the Sultan has received a letter from Arabi stating that he is determined to resist any attempt to put down the National movement in Egypt, and will even strenuously oppose any Turkish troops that may be despatched to the country. LONDON. July 20. Consols, unchanged at 99|. New Zealand securities at the following quotations i —s per cent. 10'40 loan, 107 1 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 105|j 4| per cent, (1879-1904) loan, 103. Adelaide wheat quiet at 625, ex store ; New Zealand ditto, at 60s. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, declined to 37, Australian tallow : Best beef, 44s 6d ( best mutton, 45s 6d.
July 27. Sir Garnet Wolseley leaves Mar. seilles on Tuesday next for Alexan. dria, to assume the command of the English army in Egypt. The National Bank of New Zealand has declared a dividend of 8 1 per cent for the past | year. The Goodwood Cup was run for to-day, and resulted as follows: — Friday, 1 ; Tristan, 2 ; Geologist 3. The Union Bank of Australia has declared a dividend of 8 per cent, for the past half-year, and carried £14,000 to reserve.
Consols advanced by and are again at 99|. Total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £12,400,000, being £350,000 less than last week. New Zealand securities unchanged. Colonial breadstuffs continue quiet, and Australian tallow continues firm at last quotations. The next series of wool auctions opened on the 22nd. Expeoted August arrivals for date amount to 320,000 bales. The fourth series will commence on 21st November. The Bank rate of discount remains at 3 per cent, and market rate at 3i. ROME. July 27. Sir Augustus Paget, British Ambassador, has had an interview with Signor Mancini, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, to-day, at which, on behalf of England and France, he invited the Italian Government to join those Powers in the protection of the Suez Canal. Signor Mancini replied that his Goyernment was not prepared to accept the invitation immediately, but would await the decision of the Stamboul Conference before taking any action.
