The death is announced of General Michael Skobeloff, aged 89 years. The Paris Figaro says of SkobeloffThis General has not changed during the last four vears. He is now about 87, or thereabouts. He is very tall—so that in campaigning time he cannot stand upright in his tent. His face is exceedingly intelligent, Ms eyes blue and keen and quick, his forehead full, and his beard brightly blonde | at the very first glance his psmons rsveals the energetic and loyal soldier ready tolars all and sacrifice everything.” Major Sir G. 0. Strahan, K.0.M.G., wm formerly Governor of the Barbedoes and Windward Islands, and was gazetted to the Governorship of the Colony of Tasmania early in 1880. As Major Strahan, however, was at that time administering ths government of Cape Colony, pending the arrival of Sir Hercules Robinson at that place from New Zealand, he did not arrive in Tasmania untill December, 1831.
