Two companies, one consisting of twentyfour, and the other of twelve, shareholders, have been formed in Sydney, and have secured the first 2,000,000, and the second 1,000,000 acres of land, ou the Fitzroy River, in Western Australia, and adjacent to 200,000 acres taken up and being stocked by tha Dnke of Manchester.

The annual mooting of the parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, was held in the Gisborne Public School on Tuesday evening last, t e Rev. J. Hill occupying the chair. The following officers were appointed : —Mr D, Murehie, Minister’s Churchwarden. Mr C, A. DeLautour, Parishioners’ Churchwarden, Vestry : Messrs W. L. Rees, D, Johnstone, J. W. Nolan, M. H. Smith, C, D. Bennett, G. L. Greenwood, and J. W. Matthews. Messrs J. Davis and R. H. Fisher wore appointed Auditors. The balance-sheet was eminently satisfactory, and showed a balance to credit after paying all expenses.

The adjourned ordinary meeting of the Cook Connty Council w’ill be held in the Chambers to-night at 7 p.m. sharp, for the despatch of the following business :-~1. Make general rate, 1882, 2. Receive reports on dog tax and slaughter-houses, and recommendation therewith. 3. Cr. Gannon’s notice of motion to reconsider whole question of establishing toll gates. 4. Bond and Joyces’ appeal against rating. 5. Solicitors opinion on right of individuals to construct dams to divert flood water of a river. 6. Mr McLeod and others request for overtime on contracts. 7. Resignation and appointment of keeper for Ormond pound. 8. Report on Waipaoa Ferry punt.

The first Quadrille Assembly of a series of five was held in Messrs Parnell and Boylans Hall on Tuesday evening last. There were about 35 couples present, and Captain Winter officiated as M.C. The floor was in splendid order, and in fact the arrangements generally were all that could be desired. Mrs BrookeTaylor (piano) j Mr Fiiram (horn) ; and Mr | Hall (elarionette) provided the music, whioh was thoroughly appreciated by all present, and fully deserved the encomiums whioh it elicited. Mr James Craig supplied the refreshments, and his catering gave general satisfaction. Ths dancing lasted until one o’clock in the morning. At the District Court on Tuesday last, Mr H. Trimmer obtained judgment against Wi Pakft Kahurft for £l7O Is Id, Mr ward who appeared for the defendant, admitted the debt. Mr Kenny appeared for the plaintiff, In the case of E. K. Brown v. Anaru Ratapii judgment was given in favor of the plaintiff for £3O Is 4d with costs. Mr Nolan appeared for the plaintiff. The suit, M. Muliooly v. Hapeta Maitai, a claim for £IG7, resulted in n verdict for £l2B 10s and costs. Mr Kenny for the plaintiff, and Mr Ward for the de? fence, In the matter of Reeves v. Rangihuia, Air Nolan appeared for the plaintiff, [and Mi’ Ward for the defendant. The case was adjourned until the next sitting of she court.

The annual mooting of the Ladles' Benevolent Society was held yesterday afternoon in McFarlane's Hull. There was a fair attendance, and the Von. Archdeacon Williams occupied the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet was read and the latter showed U balance of £73 10s in the hands of the (The Revd. Mr Me Ara). The report on the motion of the Rev. J. If ill, seconded hy the Roy. L. Hudson, was adopted. The fallowing ladies were elected as a committee Mes< lam wW. L.
