"Wellington, Friday. Tn the House to-day, Major Atkinson gavo notice of resolution in favor of a compulsory system of national insurance to provide against poverty arising from sickness and old age. In reply to questions, Ministers stated that they had no information to lead them to doubt tho propriety of introducing ferrets for the extermination of rabbits. They did not intend, this session to propose any change in the constitution of the Legislative Council. Lunatics and Education Reserves Bills were read a second time in committee. In Aliens Act Amendment Bill the fee was reduced from 20s io 2s (id, and on Mr. Pyke’s motion, by division 40 to 16, a proviso was added that tho Bill should not apply to Chinese.
