Napier, June 23. At the Supreme Court yesterday, Jury were unable to agree in the case of Seil Thomson, charged with maliciously wounding a bull. Tainati Tapunu was found guilty of manslaughter, and sentenced to seven years penal servitude. Prior to receiving sentence the prisoner admitted his guilt, and attributed the cause of crime to drink. The death ig announced of Mrs. Mary Jones, mother of the late John Jones, so well known in the early days of Otago, as principal merchant and shipowner. Mrs. Jones was the first white woman in Otago.
