Napier, June 23. At the Supreme Court yesterday, Jury were unable to agree in the case of Seil Thomson, charged with maliciously wounding a bull. Tainati Tapunu was found guilty of manslaughter, and sentenced to seven years penal servitude. Prior to receiving sentence the prisoner admitted his guilt, and attributed the cause of crime to drink. Wednesday. Thompson wag again charged with maliciously wounding. The case is still proceeding. Dunedin, June 23. The death ig announced of Mrs. Mary Jones, mother of the late John Jones, so well known in the early days of Otago, as principal merchant and shipowner. Mrs. Jones was the first white woman in Otago. She settled here in 1810. Wellington, June 22. Hearn has sent home for a new sculling boat, and should it arrive in time, he intends to proceed to Sydney to compete for the prizes offered by Mr. Punch. A meeting is to be held on Monday to take into consideration the expediency of establishing a company with a capital of £20,000 for the purpose of supplying public and private lighting by electricity. It is proposed that the General Directory shall bo established in Wellington and that local directories be formed in Auckland, Canterbury, and Dunedin.
