[from our own correspondent]. London, June 19. A firm and active demand was experienced at to-day’s wool sale. The catalogue comprised 9,200 bales. A portion of the steamship Cuzco’s cargo of frozen mutton was placed in the market to-day. The meat was in fair condition, and averaged C}d. per pound. It has transpired that tho Government has issued notifications to officers commanding troops in Ireland to take necessary precautionary measures against a rising which it is believed is threatened. The Cricket Match, Australians v. Yorkshire, commenced to-day. The Home Team only made 92, Phillips scoring 38. Giffen and Garrett bowled excellently. The Australians have lost four wickets for 91 runs. Bannerman (caught) 24, Murdoch (not out) 42. Berlin, June 19. An officer of the Imperial army has been placed under arrest for supplying to Russian agents information regarding the defences of Kiel, which is the chief war harbor of the German Empire in tho Baltic. St. Petersburg, June 19. It is announced that Prince Lobanoff Rostoffsky, late Ambassador at the Court of St. James, has been appointed to succeed Prince Doubrit as Ambassador to Austria. Alexandria, Juno 19. There are still 300 British subjects in Egypt. A new Ministry has been formed by Ragheb Pasha. Arabi Bey will hold the position of Minister of War, as in the last Cabinet. Melbourne, June 19. The Legislative Assembly met again to-day after the adjournment. Mr. Francis moved an amendment regarding the remission of taxation proposed by the Government. The Speaker, however, ruled that the motion was out of order, and it was withdrawn. Mr. Francis has expressed his intention of bringing the motion again before the House in Committee of Ways and Means. Adelaide, June 20. It is expected that some of the largest flour mills in this Colony will shortly be completely stopped for
want of wheat. The farmers it is stated hold large stocks, but are unwilling io sell at present prices. It is understood that wheat is being shipped from California to Adelaide. Sydney, June 20. The New South Wales Parliament has been furthar prorogued to August 22nd. June 21. In the action brought by Messrs. Goodlet and Smith against the Government, claiming £168,000 for land resumed in Darling harbor for railway works, a verdict has been returned for plaintiffs for £37 7s Gd compensation.
