DEATH OF MR BOUSFIELD.
We regret to learn that Mr 0. L. AV. Bousfield, a settler of many years standing, and respected by all who knew him, met, with a melancholy and untimely death ou Friday evening last. He left, home on Friday morning in his usual health and proceeded to Gisborne. In the afternoon he returned homewards, and on reaching Roseland, dismounted for a few minutes. On attempting to remount his horse, the animal became restive, and before the unfortunate gentleman could obtain a seat in his saddle he was thrown violently to the ground, landing on his back. He was immediately carried into the Roseland Hotel and a messenger despatched for medical assistance. In a very short space of time Dr. Pollen was in attendance, and after a short examination ordered the removal of the sufferer to the hospital. The deceased remained unconscious from the time of the accident to the hour of his death, which took place at midnight on Friday last. Mr Bousfield was a settler of 30 years’ standing 16 of which was spent in Hawke’s Bay. The deceased leaves a large circle of mourners behind who deeply regret his untimely end. A kind and affectionate husband, an indulgent parent, and a gentlemen in every sense of the word, his loss will be felt by all who were acquainted with him. We deeply sympathise with Mrs Bousfield ami her family in their bereavement. Mr Bousfield was brother to Mr Edw. Bousfield of the firm of Fox and Bousfield, and the Rev. G. B. Bousfield, both of Loudon, and Bishop Bousfield, of Pretoria, South Africa. In spite of the inclemency of the weather, over 200 persons followed the remains of the deceased gentleman to his last resting place ou Sunday afternoon.
