TOLOGA BAY.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) I have to report the death of the canine quadruped which when in Gis borne caused Mr Matthews some annoyance. Having been transferred from Gisborne to this locality, he lived on sufferance for some few months, and during the time made several persons aware of the strength of his jaws, but like Cleopatra and the asp, he turned on his only benefae or, and narrowly missed depriving that gentleman of a very prominent facial organ, whereupon the sentence immediately went forth, let him die like a dog and mav he R.I.P.

A meeting was held at the Tologa Bay Hotel on the 2nd May, for the purpose of considering the advisability of forming a Racing Association for the East Coast. There was not a very large attendance owing to several residents being absent in Gisborne. It was decided to postpone the meeting until the Ist of June, which being Licensing day, will be sure to bring many visitors into Tologa, and it. is hoped will ensure a thoroughly good meeting. Athletic and aquatic sports have been arranged for, on the Queen’s Birthday (21th May), and a very attractive programme has been put forward. The day’s sports are to be concluded with an entertainment in the evening by the 'Tologa Bay Amateur Christy Minstrels.
