We would call the attention of sporting men and others, to the fact that the acceptances and general entries for the Makaraka Race Meeting, close this evening at the Roseland Hotel, at 8 o’clock, when we hope to see? a good number of entries. Every effort has been made to make the meeting a success, and judging from what we can see. the Makaraka Racecouse bids fair to rival its more aflluent- neighbours. FROM EXCHANGES. Pat McCoy, the well known cross country rider, was married in Auckland lately to Miss Esther Holmes. Mr R. Wheeler has disposed of My Dream to Mr Shakespeare for the sum of £ll5. The chestnut gelding Why Not, by Traducer out of Ladybird, is a full brother to Te Whetu and is said to be the coming horse of New Zealand over sticks, having won the 2 mile hurdle race at Ashburton in 4min. 4s. from a field of 8. The steeplechase horses, Lone Hand Te Whetu, Catch-’em and Grey Momus, have gone to Timaru to take part in the Grand National there on the 24th inst. J. Jones is to steer Catch-’em while W. Ed wants is to have the mount on Te Whetu. It. is not yet known who is to ride old Lone Hand as J. Thorpe is still laid up.
