On Saturday night a very heavy sea was running, ami the ship Beuvenue broke adrift. The crew left in their own boats for tho City of Perth. The latter rode to a single hawser till 3.45 p.m., when it parted. Both wrecks were within a short distance of each other. Before the City of Perth parted her hawser, the crew left iu boats. The mate had both legs broken. Captain Mills, the harbormaster, with a boat’s crew and two other boats, went to the City of Perth, but soon after the hawser parted, and the boats left. When nearing the breakwater, a terrific sea swamped one boat, and the other two turned back to rescue the men. The surf boat which went to help the drowning men, was in imminent danger without being able do any good. The shore was lined with agonised spectators.
