SENTENCE ON HIROKI.

In the Supreme Court at New Plymouth, the case of Hiroki was continued on the 4th May. 'There was nothing new in the evidence. Mr Richmond made an able defence for the prisoner, and the judge summed up in a very careful manner. The jury retired at 5.45 p.m., and after an hour’s absence returned into Court with a verdict of “ Guilty.” In reply to the usual question, why sentence should not be passed on him ? the prisoner replied that he knew nothing of tho murder of McLean. The judge then passed on the prisoner the usual sentence of death. During the judge’s summing up, ho said he believed that there was not any necessity fora change of venue in the ease, as he was perfectly sure the prisoner would receive as fair a trial at the hands of the jury as if he had been tried in any other place.
