HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Hospital Committee was held last night iu the Court House. Present—Ven. Archdeacon Williams in tho chair, Messrs. Brown, McKay, Butt, Cbrisp, and Dr. Pollen. Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. Minutes of last special meeting also read and confirmed. A discussion of minor details affecting the domestic economy of the hospital then ensued—the necessity of a ladder, of the painting ano cleaning of the interior, of keeping a thoroughly good woman servant at the hospital to look after the scrubbing, &e. The Treasurer’s report was then made. Difficulties had arisen in the building of tho n«w fever ward The County Council had promised that £lOO should be available on Friday next. He had also interviewed the May ron this head. He hud had a draw on him on account of this work, and had no funds to meet. it. Captain Chrisp had advanced the £3O. He expected £lOO from the Government by next mail. The amount of collections would total up to £95 7s 4d. Mr McKay said that Captain Chrisp and himself Lad made several attempts at collection of funds, but had not been very successful. He thought something should be done towards establishing country canvas. M r Brown said that, the amount of £95 7s 4d already quoted had been entirely collected in the town. Dr. Pollen said the receipts from patients had greatly helped in the discharge of current expenses, having been fur more regular than they formerly were. It was proposed by Dr. Pollen, and seconded by Mr Brown, “That, the Secretary and Captain Chrisp be appointed a sub-Coininittee to adopt t he best steps to collect subscriptions.” Captain Chrisp reported on the tree planting. The Wardsman’s report as to the Hospital necessaries, etc. Patients admitted during the month, 8; discharged, 4 ; still remaining in hospital, 6. Dr. Pollen urged the immediate supply of articles necessary to the Hospital. Dr. Pollen said the Visiting Committee were remiss in their attendance. An account of £4 10s. was then read from Messrs. Large and Townley for the funeral expenses of Mrs. Hyde. The Ven. Archdeacon Williams thought the account should be returned, as the Committed could not acknowledge the liability. Capt. Chrisp moved that the account be referred backjto Messrs. Large and Townley, but he looked forward to the event of another pauper patient dying—the undertakers might refuse to bury them if they were so treated in tins instance. M r But t said that some public body must he responsible. Ho thought, the Borough Council was clearly resjionsible.—The account was not passed. The accounts of W. Adair, grass seed, £1 Us.; Whinray, furniture. &c., £4 Us. ; Dr. Pullen, instruments, £7 14s. ; and E. K. Brown, for goods, £3 16s. gd., were passed. Teat and Fryer, goods, £l2 15s. Bd. ; Erskine, bread, LT 3s 2d, were deferred. Kennedy and Bennett, coal, £5 L’s 5d ;J. East, goods, 12541 ; 11. Bull, 8s Ind ; A. Wilkinson, wages, £3 5s 3d ; E. Chrisp, £8 6s. Bd. ; Central Butchdry, £3 12s. Gd., were passed. This concluded the business.
