[From our own Correspondents]. Katkoura, May 5. Edward’s fellmongers establishment was destroyed by fire lust night. There was a large quantity of wool in the shed at the time, and nearly everything destroyed. The premises and W'ool were insured. Alexandra, May 5. It is still wet and there will be no korero to-day. The road now formed down to the new bridge will be allowed to go on through the c.'untry, and probably a railway also. Invercargill, May 5. Denneston, member of the Land Board, who was commissioned to examine runs to the east of the railway line, has sent in his report to the Board. In consequence of his recommendation, the Board decided to sanction their re-lease, with one exception, intact, for ten years. The sale will take place on the 14th June, along with the sale of other leases. Thames, May 5. It is announced that the Thames Newspaper and Printing Company are negotiating for the purchase of the Exchange Buildings, for convertion into a printing office for their use. Wanganui, May 5. The following nominations have been received for the Wanganui Handicap Steeplechase Meeting :—Skipjack, Ngata, Catch-’em, Lone Hand, Grey Momus, Baron, Paricarangaranga, Alaric, Chandler, Te Whetu, San Ray, Levant, Sportsman, Abolition, and New Year. Ashburton, May 5. The Rand wick disqualification has been endorsed by the Ashburton Racing Club. Dunedin, May 5. At a meeting of the Dunedin Harbor Board yesterday further consideration was given to the proposal to undertake works at a cost of £160,000. The Works Committee reported the engagement of the present Engineer, W. L. Simpson, expired by effluxion of time. On June 30 it was stated that Simpson had no desire to renew his engagement. It was then agreed to endorse the main feature of a modification of the scheme submit ted, but to adjourn the final adoption until the opinion was obtained of the new Engineer whom the Board may appoint.
