Mav 2. The race between E. Hanlan (Champion of the World) and Edv.'d. Trickett, of New South Wales, for £5OO aside, took place on the Thames, from Putney Aqueduct to Mortlake, and resulted in an easy victory for Hanlan, who played with his opponent before he had traversed half the distance. The weather was exceptionally fine, and the water very smooth. Thousands of people witnessed the contest. Hanlan received a great ovation.
