The father of a Mita Gregory, who was drowned in Coffin’s Bay, has claimed £5OO from the South Australian Marine Board for apowing the Spendthrift, in which she was a passenger, to go to sea without proper lifebuoys and boats. The Board have merely acknowledged the receipt of the letter.

A shell was fired from a forty-pounder Armstrong gun, when it bunt, and fragments were seen flying all round. Splinters fell on the beach just underneath, and numbers of people were at the time m the line of fire, apprehending no danger. It is believed the accident was caused by some particles of the white metal caving out of the shell and flying off immediately the shell left the gun. Nothing serious would hare resulted if the people had not been present in the line of fire.
