A magnificent crystal palace is to bo constructed on the site of lhe ruins of the Palace of St. Cloud, destroyed bv the Germans during the siege of Paris. Three enterprising boys chased a rabbit into a hollow log near Prairie City, lowa, and tried to blow it out with blasting powder. The experiment was successful, but killed two of the boys and seriously injured the third. An Englishman has invented a combined life-buoy and umbrella for use on ocean voyages. An ii dial cd buoy is placed inside the umbrella above the braces, which adds but a trifle to the weight, aud does not show when folded. An attempt was recently made to start a London illustrated evening paper. The ill list ral ions were con temptible, and for the present it seems we have little reason to anticipate the appearance of an illustrated daily. During the trial of a burglar at San Francisco one of the jurors took the liberty of going to the scene of the alleged offence to examine the premises on his own oecount.
