Curious Outrage at Christchurch.

A cubious cutrage is reported from Waimate, which has excited the indignation of the whole town. The shop of Alexander Maxwell, saddler and horse-cover-maker, was found to be covered with tar, the signs of the front and side of the building and the painting of a horse collar being completely obliterated. The building is in a fearful mess, and considerable expense and time will be required to put things straight again. Maxwell is a quiet, inoffensive man, but spite is supposed to be the cause of the disgraceful act. John Green, a rival horse-cover-maker, was arreited on suspicion of having committed the deed.
