The Argus this morning state that the Age's information is a palpable hoax and completely fallacious, and that Mr. Bryant was employed by Admiral Aslanbegoff on matters altogether unconnected with Australian defences. The affair has caused great excitement here. Intelligence is to hand that the ship Sobraon, bound from Melbourne to London, for whose safety fears were entertained, arrived at Capetown on the 23rd instant. Sydney, March 23. A train of Camels with provisions for the relief of distressed miners is now on its way to the Mount Brown Goldfields. Intelligence to hand state that supplies are now arriving at Monnt Brown, the distress amongst digsers proved to have been exaggerated, the supply of water is short, and is tho only great want. The City Council have appointed a committee of Aidermen to enquire into the power of the Sydney Gas Company!. Hokitika, March 24. There are now close on 200 men on the Woodstock rush. Yesterday Roberts and party, next to prospectors, washed 15 dwts fromone load. O’Loghlen and party are also on gold. A large number of holes are being sunk and there is every indication of fairly extensive and payable field being opened. —
