The Native Land Court.
The Native Land Court under the presidency of their Honors Judges Brookfield and Puckey opened yesterday at the usual place in Gisborne, after having returned from a temporary absence at Tologa Bay. The Court yesterday morning was crowded by Natives, all of whom appeared largely interested in the business in hand. The day was mostly occupied in receiving the lists of owners to be inserted in the certificate of title for the Mangatuna block situated at Tologa Bay, and the large block of land known as the Maungawara block, the investigation to the title to which has occupied the time of the Court for so long a period. But the real business that has created so much interest to the Natives in this part of the district is the investigation of title to the Maraetaha No. 2 Block, adjoining Mr J. W. Johnson’s run, and the Tarewa-a-Uru Block. For weeks past the Court has been thronged, and much interest has been manifested in the proceedings. The lands comprised in the aggregate an area of over 30,000 acres, some 22,000, acres of which was expected to pass into the hands of the East Coast Land Company. However, we purpose to publish fully the judgment of tiieir honors which is anxiously looked for- i ward to and expected to be delivered in the early part of the present week.
