The following extract from the Grey Ulcer Argus v.ill be read with interes by the numerous friends in Gisbornu of Mr and Airs Root : — Airs Roo’, wife of the Rev. \V. 11. Root la e oi St. John’s Ciiurc i. Greymoiith, sai’eii in the s. s. Kennedy on Wednesday morning, to join her husband in Blenheim. Previous to her departure, :i few gentleman connected with tlnti bove Cnnrch, resolved to present her with a testimonial, a> an acknowledgement of the zeal and perseverance displayed by her, during her residence in Grey mouth, in prosecuting the work pertaining to a Christian woman and minister’s wife. The respect and f'steem in which Afrs Root was generally held, caused u->ntiibutionsto cornu in not only from the congregation, but from oth-rs. it was arranged that a purse of sovereigns should be presented, and his Worship the Alayor. the County Chairman, and R. Forsyth. Esq., gentlemen connected with the Church, were depute<l on behalf of the contributors to make the presentation. which was accordingly done al the residence of the last named gentleman on Tuesday lasL. The deputation in presenting the gift to Airs Root assured herof t ie kindly feelings entertained towards her by the com ributor> who I rusted she would long enjoy good health ami be as useful in matters connec ed wiih the church elsewhere as she had been in Greymoiith. Mrs Rod:, in accepting the gift, feelingly thanked her friends in Greymoiith, with whom she felt sorry to part.
