The s.s. Rosina, Capt. Scott, will leave for the East Coast thie Tuesday evening. Messrs Brassey and Fraser beg to thank most hcartely those persons who rendered their assistance at the Jate fire. The Union Company’s offices have been removed, for the present, to the Exchange Buildings adjoining the Masonic Hotel. As will be seen in an advert ising columns this morning, an auctioneer’s licence has been issued to Mr Montague Henry Smith. Mr S. M. Wilson of the Albion Club Hotel, thanks his friends for assistance rendered at the late fire. Messrs Pitt and Bennett will sell this day, after t he Whataupoko sale, part of Mr Daly’s property situated in Childer’s Road, consisting of two one acre sections. We hear that a number of persons are thrown out of employment in consequence of the late fire. We hope that steps will be taken to relieve any really pressing cases. Tuta Nihoniho applied for the adjournment. of the Native Land Court yesterday. He did so in token of sympathy for his European friends who had been sufferers by the fire. The court consented to the adjournment. The energetic proprietor of the Albion Club. Hotel, Mr S. M. Wilson, has obtained a plentiful supply of ice. Thirsty souls may depend on obtaining cooling drinks at this well-known establishment. Tenders are required for alterations and additions to the Kaiteratahi Hotel; tenders to close at noon on Saturday, the 11th inst. Plans and specifications can be seen on application to Mr W. P. Finneran, Architect. Messrs Pitt, and Bennett return thanks in this morning’s issue to all persons who rendered them assistance at the late fire. They also announce that, they have temporary offices i in the old Standard Office, Large and Townley’s buildings. The Napier Team of cricketers arrived in Gisborne on Sunday morning last, apparently in very good trim, and ready to do battle fur Napier. The match is announced to take place at the llapera to-morrow (Wednesday,) at 11 a.m., when we trust that our local men will give a good account of themselves. Mr T. J. Dickson calls for tenders for the construction of a temporary building in Gladstone Road. Tenders will close at noon this day. Mr Dickson also returns his sincere thanks to his friends who assisted in saving some of his property from the Argyll Hotel. We trust to sec Mr Dickson in a very short time once more in harness. Today is to be the eventful day in regard to Whataupoko. Messrs Pitt, and Bennett will sell—not at. their mart as advertised, because it no longer exists—but they will sell the whole of Mr Barker’s interest in the said block as held under a certain deed of mortgage. It is known privately that the Land Compeny that was originally started, are endeavoring to acquire Mr Barker’s interest in the block. There are other rumours in circulation that we will not give publicity to at present; suffice it to say that we hope the curtain will drop to-day on one important act in the Whataupoko drama.
