GRAND GARDEN FETE
The open air fete in aid of the funds of Holy Trinity Church, at the Hapera grounds kindly lent for the occasion by W. L. Rees, Esq., proved a great source of attraction, notwithstanding the unpleasant westerly wind blowing all day. A great number of persons visited the grounds during the day. The following are the names of the ladies who presided over the tables : — No. I.—Mesdames Ward, Porter, and McLean. No. 2.—Mesdames De Lautour and Rees. No. 3—Mesdames East and Woon. No. 4.—Mesdames Townley and Forbes. No. 5. —Mrs. Murehie and the Misses Taylor, Mrs. Orr and the Misses O’Meara. No. 6.—Mrs. Bousfield, Mrs. Matthews, Mrs. Finneran, and Miss Stevens. About 400 sat down to an excellent tea. The ladies carried out their part of the programme admirably, and the whole reflected great credit on the committee- and all concerned. The J Battery Band played with great taste during the day, and added considerably to the enjoyment. The athletic part of the programme was well carried out. Dancing was indulged in during the evening. The pyrotechnic display, considering the night was a moonlight one, was very fair. The amount realised is, we learn, about £4O.
