[From our own Correspondents]. Albany, Jan. 19. The P. and O. steamship Mirzapore has two cases of smallpox on board, and been quarantined. Sydney, Jan. 19. One of the passengers by the Garonne died to-day. Rear Admiral Wilson, officers and crew of the Wolverine will sail to-morrow for England by the steamship Lusitana. Melbourne, Jan. 19. A serious fire occurred at Sandridge to-day, resulting in the total destruction of several wooden buildings. The heat to-day was intense, the thermometer registering 107 in the shade. Washington, Jan 18. The trial of Guiteau is still proceeding
Scoville, counsel for the defence, continues his speech on behalf of the prisoner. He ascribes the latter’s crime to be the outcome of political rancour, and asserts that General Grant, Mr Conkling, and President Arthur are morally answerable for the deed.
