[From our own Correspondents]. Melbourne, Jan. 16. Two fresh cases of smallpox in a mild form are reported to have occurred at the Quarantine Station. There are now nine persons suffering from the disease. James Mace, who was arrested on Saturday night, was brought up at the Police Court to-day on the charge of gambling, and was fined £25. At the Wesleyan Conference being held here, a fund has beeen started in aid of the families of the Wesleyan Clergymen drowned at the wreck of the Tararua, subscriptions already amount to £2,000, One of the Garonne’s passengers named M. Gray, died to-day of small pox at the Quarantine Station. Sydney, Jan. 12. The City Bank pays a dividend of 10 |>er cent, fur the past half-year, and £5,000 carried to the Reserve Fund. The Mercantile Bank declared a dividend of 9 per cent, for the past half-year and carries forward £3037. London, January 6. Musurus Pasha; Turkish Ambassador, today has formally presented to Earl Granville, Foreign Secretary, a circular note to the Powers, in which the Sultan sets forth that his rights in Egypt are founded upon Imperial firman, and that foreign nations are in no way entitled to interfere in affairs of Regency The note, as already reported, demands explanation of the Anglo-French note, guaranteeing maintenance of the Khedive's authority against any disorder that may at any time arrise in Egypt.
