(from our own correspondents). Napier, Jan. 16. A Mrs Kirkpatrick, residing at the Spit, and who had been ailing for some time, aud under medical treatment, cut her throat this afternoon. The doctor was sent for at once. There are no further particulars yet to hand. Timaru, Jan., 16 The ship City of Cashmere has gone ashore and become a total wreck. She had a quantity of wool, wheat and flour on board. Wellington, Jan. 16. The Governor has returned from a visit through the Wairarapa district. Oamaru, January 16. The harvesting is in full swing. The yield is likely to be better than was anticipated. Something like forty bushels to the acre are expected, and at Papakaio and Hakaterema a good yield will be also obtained. The weather is glorious for the cricket match between the English professionals and 22 of the Oamaru Club. The Englishmen arrived by the midday express, and the match commenced at 11.30. a.m. Christchurch, Jan. 16. The electors of Stanmore district have organised public subscription to pay Mr Pillieth the cost in opposing

the petition against his election for the General Assembly. Consequent upon cable advices to the effect that a large number of English exhibits missed the last Orient steamer, the opening of the International Exhibition was postponed to April. A number of residents in the vicinity of Cranmere Square, are signing a petition against the International Exhibition being held in that locality. The time for receiving entries for the Exhibition is extended to February the 10th. The following eighteen have been selected to play the English Eleven at Christchurch:—D. Ashby, W. 11. Attack, E.
