[From our own Correspondents]. Melbourne, Jan. 16. No fresh intelligence has been received from the Quarantine Station. James Mace, ex-pugilist, and 31 others were arrested last Saturday night for gambling. The “ Argus ” to-day publishes a special telegram from London stating that a company is being formed for the purpose of taking over the business of Messrs Cunningham and Royse Stead aud Co., of Christchurch. Capital of Company will be £1,000,000. Adelaide, Jan. 16. The necessary precautionary measures are being taken in view of an outbreak of small pox among the Garonne’s passengers, at the quarantine station. Paris, Jan. 14. Gambetta has introduced Bills into the Chamber of Deputies for the adop r tion of changes in the Senatorial elecr torate ; for a re-arrangement of finanl cial powers of Senate ; and for a modi-j tied form of Scrutin de Liste. Berlin, Jan. 14. The Prussian Parliament wasopened to-day. The speech of the Emperor announces that the relations of Prussia with the Vatican were now of a friendly character, and that a bill would he introduced enlarging the scope of the law of July, 1880. Constantinople, Jan. 13. The Sultan has issued a circular note to the Powers setting forth that his rights in Egypt are founded on imperial firman, and urging that foreigners, therefere, have no right to interfere in affairs of urgency. His Majesty further demands an explanation of the joint note recently sent by England and France to the Khedive, guaranteeing to maintain order in his kingdom. New York, Jan. 14. A train containing a number of Legislators returning from Albany to this city came into collision with another train. The first caught fire and nearly all the carriages were destroyed, 12 of the passengers were killed, and many seriously injured.
