J Battery Handicap.

A Handicap Sweepstakes between the members of the J Battery took place at the Rifle Range yesterday. The distances were 2QO, 300, and 400 yards, 5 shots at each range, and- the handicapping was undertaken by Capt. Winter, who may be congratulated upon the fairness of it, for although the winner, Veale, was in the receipt of the limit (12 points), he had the good fortune to make his score in the early morning, when there was Httle or no wind. The- competition for second honours was keen, as will be seen by the score, W. A. O’Meara (47) beating Hansen (46) by one point, starting on equal terms in the handicap. Capt. Winter made the best score independent of the handicap, but placed himself at scratch. The majority of the competitors fired in the afternoon, when there was a stiff southerly breeze.
