[From our own Correspondents], Melbourne, Dec. 29. The following is the latest betting on the Champion Cup, to be run on Monday, Jan. 2nd : — 5 to 2 against Wheatear. 3 to 1 against Wellington. 7 to 1 against Santa Claus. The following horses will also be probable starters : —Sir Peter, Royal Maid, Coriolanus, Koh-i-noor, Commotion, Marmora, Martindale, Somerset, and Monmouth. Mr Twopenny, one of the promoters, will leave Melbourne by the Arawata, to arrange for the International Exhibition at Christchurch, on the 15th March. Over 200 applications for space have already been received from England by intending exhibitors. Commodore Erskine has promised to take the Australian squadron to Lyttelton at an early date and will assist at the opening ceremony. Sydney, Dec. 29. Sir Henry Parkes and Miss Parkes were passengers for England by the Australia. Sir John Robertson was sworn in to-day, as Secretary for Lands, vice the Hon. James Hoskins. Brisbane, Dec. 30. A fire resulting in the destruction of three shops, occurred last night in South Brisbane. Insurance includes £6OO in New Zealand offices.
